The Racing Club purchased 33% in 10 Harlequin Greyhounds from 1st January 2025, the Racing Club is a separate business to Harlequin Syndicates and operates in a total different way to how Harlequin Syndicates is run. Please visit the www.HarlequinRacingClub.co.uk website to view how the Racing Club operates.

The shares owned by the Racing club have no effect on the shares individual members own in the 10 greyhounds that are dual owned by Harlequin Syndicates and Harlequin Racing Club, please read below for the way that Harlequin Syndicates operates, if you have any questions please email info@harlequinsyndicates.co.uk or call Dave Wilson on 07982932905.

Harlequin Syndicates

Harlequin Syndicates was set up in July 2023 with our first runner hitting the track on the 12th September 2023.

Harlequin Syndicates has been set up to give everyone a chance to become a greyhound owner at very reasonable costs by splitting the greyhounds ownership into 100 shares with 2 options of paying the monthly kennel fees, both options work out the same costing over the greyhounds racing career and onto the re homing system with the welfare of the greyhound paramount at all times.

With either option of the 2 systems (Both explained below) the kennel fees for each syndicate will end once a greyhound is either rehomed or sent to the breeding syndicate. Please note when a Greyhound is retired we still have a duty of care for the greyhound until a home is found and approved. The syndicate make a choice on the greyhounds future when it reaches 4 years old with the option of continued racing or retirement. If a syndicate retire a greyhound at 4 years old there are still costs involved in keeping the greyhound until its forever home is found. All syndicate members will still be charged the fees associated to the greyhound when it retires until its home is found. You as the owner can not just ask for a greyhound to be retired and then walk away we all have a duty of care to our greyhounds who give us the pleasure in racing for us and we need to take care of their needs after their racing days are finished. If the syndicate continue to race on after the 4th birthday all owners will need to pay their share of the continued Kennel bills each month.

So how does Harlequin Syndicates work ?

At Harlequin Syndicate we aim to give everyone the chance to own a share of a racing greyhound, in order to do this we syndicate each greyhound out with 2 ways of paying the kennel bills.

Each syndicate will be made up of 100 x 1% shares, some of the Greyhounds will be part owned by Harlequin Racing Club and the holding The Racing Club owns is deducted from the 100 shares available at Harlequin Syndicates.

The 2 Kennel Bill options we have

Please note both systems work out the same costings in the long run, the only difference is the pay monthly kennel bills are a variable amount each month where the pay monthly all inclusive is a set amount each month. The pay monthly all inclusive is the most popular choice of owners.

Option 1 Pay Monthly Kennel Bills : is to purchase the amount of shares you require in the greyhound you choose, with a monthly kennel bill to be paid every month until the greyhound is rehomed or sent to the breeding syndicate that is equal to the share % you purchase. Each Kennel bill is split between the 100 share holders of that syndicated greyhound each month. Kennel bills are split bu Harlequin Syndicates and forwarded on to you for your monthly payment.

Option 2 All Inclusive fees : is to purchase the amount of shares you require in the greyhound you choose at an all inclusive price per month (Stated on the profile page of each greyhound) with no further costs to be added to that price, the price is capped at that price every month. Every 6 months there is a prize money pay-out which is paid directly to each owners account at Harlequin Syndicates on 1st June and 1st December each year. At no time will any owner be asked to pay more than the set capped monthly charge unless there are additional costings involved in the rehoming of the greyhound.

Please note that when buying a Pay Monthly share or shares you are purchasing a share in the greyhound until it is 4 years old or older, the figures involved are worked out so the Pay Monthly All inclusive shares are affordable to everyone but the costs involved in each dog are worked out until the greyhound reaches 4 years old, these are  purchase costs, transports cost, registration cost and GBGB bonds to be paid on all greyhounds as well as there kennel fees and any extras as needed. You as the share owner are expected to pay your monthly share price until at least the greyhound is 4 years old, this is covered in the Harlequin Syndicates terms and condition as item 16.

Each Greyhound has an initial cost to purchase as well as GBGB fees to register and a GBGB Bond to pay, these are all included in your monthly fee to pay per share. Each syndicated greyhound will be charged between £5 and £10+ based on initial costs of purchase plus kennel fees. As an example a greyhound that is £5 per month will have kennel fees of £4.15 to pay per month and the remaining £0.85 will be repaying the costs price of the greyhounds purchase. Every 6 months (1st June and 1st December) each owner will receive their % of the prizemoney the greyhound wins depending on share holding held. Any additional costs over the standard kennel bill will be deducted from the prizemoney pool, this gives the owner of the share(s) the knowledge of a capped kennel fee as well as a prize money pay-out every 6 months (1st June and 1st December) An example of this is Derby entry fees which are not included when the pricing is made but is a cost that the owners need to pay on top, these fees will be deducted from the prize money won and owners will not be asked to pay extra.

You can pre pay in advance as many months as you wish and you can purchase as many shares as you feel you require up to 49 in any greyhound if the shares are available on the website for sale.

The All Inclusive price banding is as follows

£5 per month per 1% share for Greyhounds valued up to £2,000

£6 per month per 1% share for Greyhounds valued up to £5,000

£7 per month per 1% share for Greyhounds valued up to £7,500

£8 per month per 1% share for Greyhounds valued up to £10,000

£9 per month per 1% share for Greyhounds valued up to £12,500

£10 per month per 1% share for Greyhounds valued up to £15,000

Please see each individual greyhound profile page for the cost per month of that individual greyhound If you have any questions please email info@harlequinsyndicates.co.uk or call Dave Wilson on 07982932905

Each syndicated Greyhound will undergo a welfare and fairness check aged 4 years old and the syndicate will agree the greyhounds future beyond the 4th birthday.  Please remember we all have a duty of care to the greyhounds we own until they have a forever home or they are moved to the breeding syndicates.

Purchasing your shares

Please firstly select the kennel billing payment option that you require and once you have selected the option that suits you, you can then add the greyhound to your shopping basket, at this stage there is a counter that is set to 1 share / 1% of the greyhound, you can now change the counter setting to the % of the greyhound that you require to purchase. If you have any questions on the billing option of the kennel bill please contact info@HarlequinSyndicates.co.uk to clarify the situation.

Please see below for full details of how to make a purchase.

How to Purchase a Share in a Harlequin Greyhound

Step 1 is to choose the greyhound that you wish to purchase shares in by viewing the portfolio of each of the greyhounds. Choosing the greyhound that suits you is one of the most important parts of the selection and if you wish to meet the greyhound before making a purchase please contact us on info@harlequinsyndicates.co.uk and we can arrange for you to meet the greyhound Click here to view all the greyhounds we have available and to read about their backgrounds and the purchase costs and options available.

Step 2 is to add your selected greyhound to the shopping basket, at the end of each greyhounds portfolio and costings there is a click here to purchase a share. Please ensure you select the option that suits you best with the pay kennel bills monthly or the all inclusive kennel fees options available on all greyhounds unless they have sold out. (See above for Kennel fee details) When adding the Greyhound to your basket the counter is set to  1 or 1% share and you can at this point change that setting to your personal requirements. Maximum share holding in any syndicate is 49%.

Step 3 Once you have selected your purchase please click Proceed To The Check Out, here we take your personal detail’s which we need by law, as your are now  becoming a part owner in the greyhound. Once you have entered all your details please click the place order button, no payment is taken at this stage. The system will send you a confirmation email that you are making a purchase and the email will contain Harlequin Syndicates bank details for you to make the bank transfer payment too Harlequin Syndicates Bank Account.

Step 4 Once you have transferred the purchase cost amount to Harlequin Syndicates, you will be contacted by Dave Wilson to set up your owners profile and to add you to the selected greyhounds personal what’s app group and to give you the up to date information on the greyhound. You as the owner will receive in the post your ownership share certificate, photo of your greyhound and if you own 10% or more the owners badge details for your selected greyhounds home track along with the benefits available as an owner of the greyhound at that track.

Step 5 As the owner of the greyhound you are now responsible for your ownership % of the greyhounds monthly bill, unless you have purchased an all inclusive package. Each month the kennel bills are posted to the Harlequin Information what’s app group and everyone can see the charges from the trainers made to Harlequin Syndicates for the months training fees along with the prize monies won, along with the Harlequin management fee, any extras from the trainers will be listed in the extras column.

No matter when you purchase your share you will be responsible for the share of that months kennel fees for your greyhound. At the end of each month this charge is added to the purchase price of each greyhound, hence when purchasing you will be charged from the 1st of the month, this also includes any prize money won in that month. This means that every owner pays the same amount per share for each greyhound. No one pays a different purchase price as we do not re value the racing greyhounds. From time to time there will be sales offers that Harlequin offer to all members and no one person will be offered a discount that all members are not offered.

Step 6 Terminology and basic info for New people to the sport : Newcomers to Greyhound racing will often wonder what and why on a lot of different subjects. When a greyhound arrives to a track to race it must first have two qualifying trials with at least 2 other dogs to obtain its racing grade. Most Tracks grade the runners from A1 (Best) to A11 (Lowest) depending on the times achieved in the qualifying trials, this will determine which grade the Racing Manager of the track puts the Greyhound into. Greyhounds also tend to run from the same traps most of the time, an Inside seed will prefer traps 1 and 2, a middle seed traps 3 and 4 and a wide seed traps 5 or 6. The seeding a dog gets will also be determine by his trial runs and is also changeable depending on how he/she races. If a greyhound is lucky enough to be able to win A1 races this will open up the avenues to go Open Class racing and compete at other tracks against other open class runners. Big competitions are available for open class racers like the Derby, the St Leger and many other competitions put on at tracks all over the UK. This is a rough guide how greyhound racing works and if you have further questions please email info@harlequinsyndicates.co.uk

Kennel Bills

If you purchase an all inclusive package, all costs and kennel bills are included from the time of purchase until the Greyhound is rehomed or sent to the breeding syndicate. At the 4 years of age stage we have a syndicate meeting about the greyhound and at this point we have discussion on the future of the greyhound. Please see above for the options once a greyhound reaches 4 years of age. We all have a duty of care for the greyhound we own even if it retires from racing.

If you select the pay monthly kennel bills they can range from £3.81 per month per 1% (Dog on rest) to a profit if your dog wins races, depending on how many wins and what grade the races are. Prize money won is deducted from the monthly kennel bill and any surplus is paid to the owners. Unlike the pay out dividend that the all inclusive owners receive every 6 months (1st June and 1st December). Please remember that once a greyhound reaches 4 years old we all still have a duty of care to the greyhound and the greyhounds needs if we race on or if we retire the greyhound.

Kennel fees are charged by each trainer at roughly £10 per day per dog  plus VAT. Roughly £365 per month or £3.65 per 1% share. There may also be a few small extra charges like wormers, physio work and other small additional costs these are additional costs not kennel fees. A maximum kennel bill will be around £4.15 per 1% share for a month if no prize money is won. Extras that are invoiced by the trainers will be added to the kennel bill and all kennel bills are available to be viewed by any member who wishes to view any of the trainers bills.

Each Greyhound once purchased becomes the owners responsibility to pay their part of the Greyhounds up keep and management fees even after 4 years of age. We all have a duty of care to “our” greyhound.

Harlequin management Fees

Harlequin charge a set fee of 50p per 1% share per dog per month.

This minimal charge covers the website costings, the website hosting charges, the initial owners pack which is posted out to each share holder and to manage and update the owners on a weekly basis via the Monthly email update and the day to day management of each greyhound under the umbrella of Harlequin Syndicates and Harlequin Racing Club. The unowned shares in each greyhound that is not fully sold out are not charged to the other owners, Harlequin management fees also go towards covering these costs which keep the members costings to a minimal charge.

Harlequin would like to think we give the very best information and updates to all our syndicate members and that we keep all owners fully updated with race plans or other information when received from our trainers. Harlequin Management fees are added to the monthly kennel bills if paying monthly or they are fully included in the all inclusive fee package.

Any questions on Harlequin Management fees please contact info@HarlequinSyndicates.co.uk

TESTIMONIALS

I started off with 3 shares now up to 11 shares in different Dogs.
Harlequin is a great and affordable way to get into the sport we love. Since I joined last April I have had 19 winners including open races and Harlequin Ocean in the semi final of the cat 1 cesarewitch which is just brilliant. Dave Wilson is extremely knowledgeable and has a lot of experience, I always look forward to the regular informative. updates on all the Dogs. The Harlequin family are a really nice bunch off people, I’ve met quite a few of them and they make you feel very welcome, so get involved you won’t regret it.
Steve. C  Maidstone (Kent)

I got into this sport a little over a year ago, did some research and found Harlequin syndicate’s website, Dave is an absolute legend, explained everything super clearly and now I’m at the point where I have shares in 5 dogs, it’s as inclusive as you want it to be, on Sundays you can go and visit the dogs and take them for a walk and meet the trainers (which I will be taking full advantage of when I’ve passed my driving test!) there are sub-WhatsApps with regular updates and info sharing on the dogs and recently members have been sharing pictures of our doggos which always brightens my day, I’m still a complete novice but I’m well looked after by the pros! So honestly if you’re still sitting on the fence about getting into greyhound racing I can whole heartedly say pick harlequin syndicates because they will have your back every step of the way.

Ruthie Jones Wallington (Surrey)

Enjoy getting involved in YOUR choice of greyhound(s) at a reasonable cost. Harlequin offer shares from 1% upwards. It’s a good chance to meet new people when you have a night out at the dogs. Dennis Hodgkins, Crawley, West Sussex

As someone very new to the sport of Greyhound Racing, Harlequin Syndicates was a no brainer when getting involved in the sport. Harlequin Syndicates allows you to get involved in the sport at an affordable price and allows you at first hand to see the care and attention of all the greyhounds. The experience so far has been nothing short of brilliant with almost daily updates of how the dogs are getting and detailed race previews. The Syndicate manager Dave Wilson and all the trainers do a fantastic job, I hope to be part of Harlequin Syndicates for many years to come. Lewis Rick Humphrey, Brentwood, Essex

I would like to thank Harlequin Syndicates for giving me a chance to be an owner of a racing greyhound (Rose and Cookie) and a pup that is being reared in Ireland (Kiki) as trying to do this alone is outside of my budget range, but with being able to buy shares I can be involved in racing and watching a pup grow and fingers crossed win races, the free share offer for Cookie helped make my mind up that Harlequin Syndicates are trying to encourage owners to the sport in the best way they can. Rose being moved to my local track also meant hat it made sense to purchase a share in her as I can attend the track and see her race. Patrick McBride (Hove)

Since joining the harlequin syndicate myself and my uncle own shares in 6 different dog including A members dog which I think is absolutely brilliant!. Dave as the syndicate boss is doing a fantastic job he was very welcoming towards myself and uncle (who has special needs) with no problem. He is very professional in regards to paper work and keeping updated on information in the all dogs we have shares is and is always open to answer any questions we may have as we are new into the greyhound racing game. Dave is efficient and friendly polite and professional and we are very happy with the dogs we are apart of and with the service we have/still receiving from Dave. Hayley Rose and Anthony Rose (Islington, London)

I have been involved in Greyhound Racing for 25 years, I have 4 dogs on my local track at Newcastle. I see the Harlequin advert and thought I would give them a try with Harlequin Missy. I have previously been in syndicates which were poorly run to say the least. Dave who runs Harlequin Syndicates certainly knows his stuff and for me information is the KEY element, this is a one off syndicate which provides outstanding information and is second to none on the market. If you are wary of joining a syndicate don’t be with Harlequin they are FIRST RATE. Started off with Missy and I am now involved in 4 other Harlequin Syndicated Greyhounds, Harlequin James Harlequin Syd Harlequin Windy and Harlequin Money . Neil Black (Cumbria)

‘I was first introduced to Harlequin Syndicates via a friend who shares the same passion as me for racing. Although I have only been a member of the syndicate for a few days (Harlequin Gambit) I have been very impressed so far with the service I have received. From the initial telephone conversation I had with Dave, the syndicate manager, I could tell that it was a very well run business. Dave is extremely knowledgeable about greyhound racing and he provides regular updates to owners regarding syndicate dogs as well as your own. I look forward to Harlequin Gambit’s first run and would highly recommend to others looking to own a share in a greyhound.’    Michael Frew Woodley, Reading

I purchased a Share in Harlequin Missy after watching her win on the 20th September 2023 6 days later in her next race upped in class she won in impressive fashion. I could not have had a better start to purchasing my first share in a greyhound syndicate. The information given by Harlequin is fantastic with updates on the what’s app group being very regular and you also get to inter act with the other syndicate owners and discuss the greyhound. Truly amazing set up by Harlequin and would recommend Harlequin Syndicates to anyone thinking of joining a syndicate. Steve P (Sheffield)

Having seen a post on social media and noting Harlequin was going to invest in more Greyhounds and also going to be at my Local track, I was very happy to purchase shares in two unraced puppies Harlequin Syd and Harlequin Windy who are very well bred and have outstanding pedigrees. Sandra L (London)

Having looked around at various syndicates I came across Harlequin Syndicates. We decided to buy a share in a greyhound for the children to watch and take an interest in. Found Dave to be very fair and transparent on costings for training and racing. We have email and what’s app updates and the kids have share certificates and pictures of the greyhounds. Brilliant system for all the family. We now have shares in Harlequin Missy, Harlequin Windy, Harlequin Syd, Harlequin Money and Harlequin James. Vincent MCconnell (Dorset)

I currently have shares in Harlequin James, Harlequin Money and Harlequin Missy and Harlequin Syndicates is an excellent syndicate to be part of, it is run by Dave who as well as being a very friendly and honest man, has a real font of knowledge which is vital if any syndicate is to be successful. The trainers are carefully selected and pass on every detail of the training and plans for your dog, as well as as photos and videos. Everyone is made so welcome and is a great way to enter the world of Greyhound ownership. Frankie Fizgerald (London)

Harlequin gives everyone a chance to own one, or several shares, in different dogs at tracks in the south east. Costs both incurred in the purchase and potential on-going costs are always clearly shown. With such a good website you have the chance of reading about each greyhound before you make your decision to get involved. There is also the social side as you may bump into others shareholders at the various tracks. All in all, if you are looking to dip a toe into ownership waters then Harlequin will help you ‘swim’ at an affordable price. Get involved! DH in Sussex

Breeding Programme

When a Harlequin Syndicates bitch retires from racing we shall be looking at using the bitch for breeding. No share holder will be expected to be part of this unless they specifically agree to join the breeding syndicate (at no extra costs)

The breeding syndicate will be formed once the racing days are over.  We currently have Four greyhounds in the breeding syndicates and they are Harlequin Asmara, Harlequin Cookie, Harlequin Ocean and Harlequin Notou.

How Does the breeding programme work ?

For each greyhound this will vary but in this case of Cookie and Notou  the shareholders in Harlequin Cookie and Notou  have a choice to join the breeding syndicate or relinquish their share. The deal that has been done is that we shall swap Cookie and Notou  for 2 pups out of their first litters when they are 12 weeks old (3 Months)

The share holders can at no extra cost exchange the share(s) they have into either the dog or bitch pup that we are to receive. The costs will be £120 per month (1% = £1.20) until the puppy is 12 month old. There will be some costs for registration and naming when due, after 12 months of age the puppy will start to be schooled and learn to start racing and the fees are the same as the racing fees from 12 months old around £330 per month (£3.50 max per 1%).

1% of the puppies rearing fee will be £1.20 per month and once the pup reaches 12 months old will be up to around £3.50 max per month for 1%. The puppy will have 2 novice races in Ireland then will be sent to England to race at one of our selected tracks with one of our selected trainers. Their will be additional cost for transport and GBGB registration plus the GBGB Bond to be paid over and above the £3.50 max kennel fee.

FAQs

Hopefully all of your questions have been answered by our easy to use website, if there is something not covered below that you would like answered please contact info@harlequinsyndicates.co.uk

How many members in each syndicate ?
Each syndicate will be made up of 100 shares, shares are sold in 1% increment’s,  no member may purchase more than 49% of any one syndicate.

Ballot / Votes
If there is a need for a vote or ballot you will receive 1 vote or 1 ticket into the ballot for each share you own in the syndicate. If there is a hung vote Harlequin will have the casting vote.

Does the syndicate have an expiry date ?
Yes. In each greyhound syndicate you purchase the share until the greyhound reaches 4 years old then the syndicate vote on the greyhounds future. Please remember you are buying an ownership share not a 1 year lease share. Harlequin will do all in there power to arranging homing for our greyhounds at the end of there racing careers, the majority of our bitches will go to Ireland to enter into the breeding syndicates. If a owner does not wish to part take into the breeding syndicate they can sell their share privately or give up their share to Harlequin Syndicates.

What happens when a Greyhound Retires ?

When a greyhound retires from racing we then have the choice to home the greyhound or put the greyhound into a breeding syndicate, The bitches will all probably be used for breeding but the dogs unless they are exceptional will be homed. If you have an all inclusive package there are no refunds if the greyhound retires before the age of 4, the kennel bills will still need to be paid until the greyhound is found a home.

Homing Process

If the greyhound is put up for homing the syndicate will be given the first refusal to home the greyhound. You do not have to home a greyhound unless you wish to do so. If more than 1 person from the syndicate wishes to home the greyhound a balloted draw shall take place at the kennels, the people wishing to home the greyhound will receive 1 entry into the draw per % of the greyhound that they own, the draw will be made by the trainer. Each application to home a greyhound will first be checked by the trainer of the greyhound to ensue that the home is suitable for the greyhound as well as the owner is suited to the dog. Full due diligence will take place and if the greyhound is not suited after homing Harlequin will then make more arrangements as needed. We pay the £200 bond fee for each greyhound but we do not feel we shall use this service but if we need to we shall.

Do we have insurance ?

Each owner can purchase insurance separately, Harlequin can help you with this if needed. If the whole syndicate wishes to insure the animal Harlequin will obtain a full insurance costing to be put to the syndicate owners and will be divided to the share standings for cost purposes. I personally know that this is a very large figure due to the nature of greyhound racing.

What if I want to sell my share ?
You as the owner of the share have the right at any time to sell your share to who ever you wish but this will need to be approved by Harlequin Syndicates first so as not to breach any terms and conditions. The share can not be sold to anyone that may be disqualified from Greyhound ownership or banned from any GBGB race tracks. The sale fee you agree with and sales you make are up to you, Harlequin will only do a background check on the person you are selling to the same as when you purchased the original share and making arrangements for kennel fees to be paid to Harlequin. Please remember no person can own more than 49% of any one syndicated greyhound.

What does the initial payment cover ?
The initial payment is for the purchase of the ownership of the greyhound. This will include any shipping costs plus registration fees and any retirement bonds due for payment, these will be highlighted in the cost breakdown on the purchase share page and the greyhound portfolio. We put as much as possible into the purchase price to keep the kennel bills to a minimum.

The all inclusive packages covers all costs and all kennel bills up and till the greyhound is 4 years old.

What are the Monthly Charges ?
There will be the kennel bills to pay each month unless you purchase the all inclusive package, with any additional vet or physio fees that may be incurred. The fees are laid out in the purchase document of each syndicate. You are liable for your share % of the monthly bills. Each kennel bill will be posted in full to each what’s app group of the Greyhound concerned. The monthly charge from Harlequin for management fees will be added a this point.

What if all shares are not sold ?
Harlequin will stand the cost of unsold shares, this will not be passed to the other syndicate members.

What are Harlequin Management Fees ?

Harlequin will under take to manage each syndicate and there are management fees to pay to cover the costs involved.

The Greyhound management fee is set at 50p per 1% share per month. This cost is in the all inclusive package already if you have purchased that deal.

Harlequin syndicates will undertake all matters on behalf of the syndicate owners including all financial matters and the paying of the monthly bills to the trainers. Prompt payments to the kennels bills is upmost important so we can pay the trainers as soon as we can. We receive the bills on the 1st and pay the trainers on the 7th of each month.

Harlequin Syndicates also provide a welcome pack to each share holder including ownership certificate and a photo of the greyhound and we also provide weekly updates via what’s app groups and on the syndicate website under each animals own website area when needed, plus the weekly email update on the whole syndicate.
